Working with one of the UK (or the worlds) biggest Independent music groups, Cherry Red, is not something to be taken lightly! These people know what they are doing, and can call on the services of anyone in the industry. So to win the order for the Mercury Rev box set was considered a huge victory for us.
One of the reasons we won the order for this project is the principals that form the core of our business model. We see ourselves as solution providers rather than problem creators. We regard ourselves as partners rather than suppliers. The idea was to create a direct to consumer VIP pack to accompany the re-release of Mercury Rev's classic All is Dream album. We had to work within budget and time restraints and create the finished artwork from files that were available from Warner Brothers, who original held the licence for the album some years back. Working with the Cherry Red label manager, the graphic designer for the CD pack and the band themselves we came up with a comprehensive list of items that could enhance the user experience and create a value for money, top quality product that Mercury Rev fans would love.
So.....this is what we came up with and produced, on time and within budget!
7" sized box printed full colour and laminated
bespoke foam insert to hold the CD pack which consisted of 4 CD's mounted within a book with hard cover, and 3 badges designed for the project using stock imagery
recreations of the artwork for the three singles that were featured on the album
21" poster of alternate sleeve artwork
printed copy of handwritten lyrics, autographed in ink by hand
7" single on gold vinyl in picture sleeve featuring unreleased outakes from the original sessions (why they were out takes is beyond me, because they are absolutely brilliant tracks!)
